Team design decides what you can beat. The resource economy decides how often you get to try, and it is the part of the genre that shapes actual weeks of a player's life. This entry describes each of the standard modes, what it exists to supply, and how the energy clock ties them together into a routine that is either sustainable or quietly demanding.
The standard modes and what each one supplies
Battle collection RPGs converge on a similar set of modes because each solves a different supply problem. Reading them as supply lines rather than as content makes the daily routine obvious.

The pattern in the rhythm column is the thing to notice. Only the campaign and the dungeons are limited purely by energy. Everything else is limited by a count of attempts that resets on a clock, which means those attempts are lost if unused and cannot be accelerated by spending. That distinction is the whole basis of an efficient routine: attempt-limited content first, because it expires; energy-limited content afterwards, because energy accumulates while you are not playing.
How the energy economy works
Energy regenerates at a fixed rate up to a cap. Above the cap, regeneration stops and the time is lost. This is the single most important fact about the economy, and it drives the behaviour these games are designed to produce: short, frequent sessions, because a player who logs in twice a day wastes less regeneration than one who logs in every second day.
Energy can generally be topped up with premium currency, at a stated rate. That exchange is where time and money become interchangeable, and it is worth working out once, in your own terms rather than the game's. If a refill costs a given amount of premium currency, and the same currency buys a summon, then every refill is a fraction of a summon not taken. Expressing spending in what it displaces, rather than in dollars, tends to produce clearer decisions than a budget does.
Two structural features are worth knowing about. Levelling up an account usually restores energy fully, which means the sensible moment to spend a large amount of energy is just before a level-up rather than just after. And energy costs per attempt rise with the difficulty tier while rewards rise faster, so the efficient stage to farm is usually the hardest one your team clears reliably — reliability being the operative word, because a failed attempt still consumes the energy.
Worked example: a week that does not expand to fill your life
Consider an account with limited time — say twenty minutes a day. The routine that extracts the most from that time inverts the order most new players use.
First, spend the attempt-limited content: the clan boss attempts and the arena attempts. These expire on the daily reset and cannot be bought back later, so they are the only part of the day that is genuinely time-critical. Second, complete whichever daily tasks are already nearly satisfied by the first step, rather than chasing the ones that require a detour. Third, spend accumulated energy on a single target — the dungeon supplying whatever is currently blocking progress — rather than spreading it across three.
What that produces is a session with a natural end. The alternative routine, energy first and attempts last, tends to produce a session that ends only when the player stops, which is a different kind of week. Neither is more efficient in resources; the first is considerably more efficient in attention.
The three bottlenecks, in the order they arrive
Accounts stall in a predictable sequence, and recognising which stall you are in prevents the usual mistake of solving the wrong one.
- Levels, in the first week. Everything is under-levelled and the fix is campaign farming. This phase is short and it is the only one where raw playing time reliably converts into progress.
- Gear, in the first month. The team is levelled but its stats are poor, particularly speed and accuracy. The fix is dungeon farming at the highest tier that clears reliably, and disciplined disposal of gear with unusable substats.
- Ascension materials, thereafter. This is the long-term constraint, and it is deliberately rate-limited through cooperative content and tiered dungeons. No amount of campaign farming resolves it, which is why accounts that ignore clan content stall here indefinitely.
The sequence is worth internalising because the natural response to any stall is to play more, and in stages two and three playing more of the wrong mode produces nothing. Diagnosing which bottleneck you are in takes a minute; the alternative can take a fortnight.
Events, deadlines and the one pattern worth watching
Events overlay the normal economy with a deadline and a score. Structurally they do something specific: they convert a system with no time pressure into one with time pressure, and time pressure is what makes a resource feel scarce enough to buy. This is not hidden — an event is plainly presented as a limited-time competition — but its effect is easier to resist when named.
The practical approach is to decide, at the start of an event, which reward tier is reachable with the resources you already hold, and to treat everything above that tier as not on offer. That converts an open-ended scoring competition into a finite task, which is how most of these events reward a player who is not spending anyway.
What to watch out for
- Letting energy sit at cap. The only genuinely wasteful habit in the economy, and the easiest to fix.
- Farming a tier you clear ninety per cent of the time. The failures consume energy and return nothing; a lower tier cleared every time often yields more per hour.
- Skipping clan content because the chat is quiet. Cooperative bosses are usually the main supply of the material that becomes the long-term bottleneck.
- Treating an event's top tier as the goal. Top tiers in scored events are generally calibrated for accounts spending during the event, and reaching for one is the most common route to spending that was not planned.
- Third-party services offering resources. Currency, energy and materials come from inside the game. Sites offering them cheaply are a recurring category in the reports published by Scamwatch.
Thinking about spending before the game asks you to
This site does not tell readers whether to spend, and it publishes no prices. What it does suggest is that the decision is easier made once, calmly, than repeatedly under a deadline. A few questions cover it: is there a total amount for a month that you would not regret; is the purchase a fixed item or a randomised draw, because those are different kinds of decision entirely; and does the purchase solve a bottleneck you have actually diagnosed.

A single account attacking a cooperative boss contributes damage to a shared total, and the reward tier everyone receives is set by that total. Two consequences follow, and neither is obvious from the interface.
The first is that joining an active group is worth more than several weeks of individual progress, because the reward tier jumps immediately rather than gradually. The second is that consistency matters more than strength: a group of moderate accounts that all attack every day reaches a higher tier than a group containing two strong accounts and six dormant ones. This is why clans in these games have attendance requirements that can read as excessive — they are the mechanism by which the reward tier is held.
Clan features also bring a chat channel, and with it the ordinary risks of any group space online.
